Topic discussion about being overweight and a prepper. More info below so please read. If you find this video helpful, please consider placing an Avon order with me as it helps to keep this channel running: http://www.youravon.com/mmartin3538there are many prepper out there who talk all the time about stocking up on food, guns, ammo, supplies, medical equipment, hunting items and so forth. They show you how to cook, clean, can, cultivate, garden, hunt, fish, and a whole slew of other topics. But your first line of defense is yourself and your body. If you are not physically able to sustain in a SHTF scenario, then all of those preps are going to do you no good. We have to think about our bodies and our health to make sure that we are capable of surviving in difficult times. And where many of us think we could handle it, when put to the real test, we may find out that we are not in the shape we need to be in. If we face an economic collapse or a crisis in the economy and gas prices spike, could you walk 10 or 20 miles to town to get the food you need to survive? If your home was invaded, are you strong enough physically to engage in hand to hand combat? If you had to get out and chop wood for firewood as your only heat source, could you do that and haul it by hand? If you lose electricity and have to go your own home repairs with manual tools because you've lost the use of your power tools, would you have the stamina needed to do that? These are areas that i think that many preppers aren't thinking about. And it should be one of the very first things we consider. If we've allowed ourselves to become fat and lazy, then no amount of prepping is going to help us when the physical demands of an end of the world scenario presents itself to us.

Jan 13, 2012 - Great points made. I'm in really bad shape too and I'm living in a shtf situation right now. I feel like a burden to my family.

Jan 14, 2012 - I think the critical issue is whether or not you are healthy. As a person who has been both underweight and overweight, getting off prescription drugs for healh issues is key. You can be skinny and on blood pressure meds,,have blood sugar issues etc. Many of the foods that preppers are storing aren't very healthy. You've given us a lot to think about get strong both inside and out. I'm a Katrina survivior and it can happen anywhere. We hadn't had a hurricane hit us in 40 years.

Jan 16, 2012 - Yep every pound of it is about 4000 calories, 15% body fat is good for survival because its like built in energy stores. Skinny people will immediately begin cannibalizing their lean mass. All fatties need is vitamins, water, and some lean protein

Feb 2, 2012 - If the invader was twice my size they couldnt fit throught the door! As a Fat Kid who is prepared I know that I cant hike 20 miles effectively. I can hike 2.5 miles in both pairs of boots I'm breaking in. Zombieland rule 1 is cardio, but If I have enough ammo who needs to run. If we are displaced from out homes we are in big trouble. having to go out on foot would be terrible just because of what we couldnt bring along. That canned food is heavy.

Llama212ify Says:

Feb 2, 2012 - Rocking chair + shotgun. All you need!

Llama212ify Says:

Feb 2, 2012 - I don't know if I can hike 20 miles to get food. Would take awhile. I know I can walk at least 10 though. I've already walked 6 or 7 without a problem. Definitely need some good shoes lol.

vention4wh Says:

Feb 9, 2012 - Agreed. I've been feeling rather chunky as well. I was 238 in November of last year and started easing my way into a more healthy lifestyle. I'm down to 221 now.

BIBLEisMARKofBEAST Says:

Feb 15, 2012 - Stocking up will not save you. You can only escape by leadership of the Holy Spirit.

beloon1970 Says:

Feb 16, 2012 - Get a bicycle that is also electric or motorcycle with a trailer.also best to have a bugout underground shelter in a remote area that is not easily seen is best.

Mar 11, 2012 - Not without my family , I also have copd so I know I am up a creek with out a paddle on my own.

CrowsNest2012 Says:

Mar 14, 2012 - For the aged or infirm prepper, maintaining friendships and building community ties is asimportant as stocking up. We plan on helping those who can't do everything for themselves, and have friends who can do things we can't. Nobody knows everything and not everybody can hike 20 miles in a snowstorm uphill both ways. But if a few of your "community" can, you're ahead of the game IMHO. Thanks for the thought provoking video!

Apr 13, 2012 - The most shocking part of your video was when you said your in your mid 40's...I'am in my mid 40's and recently changed my license and reused my picture for the third time.I believe you can be overweight and survive if your in a network of people.I would kill to have dsarti1 or demcad as part of my network...dsarti1 is a bible of prepping knowledge...Demcad is super smart and super trust worthy...They are overweight generals in any army.P.S...I'am not overweight but see the value in knowlege.

countryboyfirearms Says:

Apr 17, 2012 - i am glad someone made a video on this subject. I have thought of this but i thought if i said something i would be thought of as making fun of someone but i have had this talk with a friend of mine that has overweight parents and they say they wouldn't make it very long because of those health problems. you can know everything and have everything but you cant use them without being able to physically do whatever you need to.

Xhazyrd Says:

Apr 30, 2012 - For me personally, I decided that I would feel more confident in survival if I were in better shape and my passion for prepping and survival was the motivation I needed to get active. In the past year I've lost 102 pounds with 51 of that being in 2012 alone. I still have a way to go but I feel much better about my chances now. Good luck to you in your weight loss journey!

kentuckymusashi Says:

May 6, 2012 - first off very good video. i myself have recently realized that all the prepping ive done thus far in a shtf or wrol situation would be USELESS because i am so outta shape. two days ago i tried to hang a simple swing from a tree in my back yard and was shocked at how impossible it was to do. it makes complete sense to me now that in a wrol/shtf situation it will truly be "survival of the fittest" now the number one prep for me will be weightloss/fitness.keep up the good work
